Access to the mountains

The Calanques National Park is a protected area home to exceptional flora and fauna, as well as magnificent natural landscapes. However, access to the park’s mountain ranges is restricted in order to preserve this fragile environment.

Indeed, the Calanques mountain ranges are at risk of wildfires, landslides and erosion. For this reason, access to these areas is restricted.

Every Sunday throughout the year, the Route des Crêtes between Cassis and La Ciotat is closed to motorised vehicles (cars, motorbikes, etc.): it is reserved for walkers and cyclists.

Good to know

There are two levels of danger:

✅ GREEN: You can go for a walk all day
⛔️ RED: Access – including by sea – as well as traffic and the presence of people in the forest areas are prohibited all day.

These levels are determined daily for each forest area and each local authority. They are available from 6.00 pm ( barring exceptional circumstances) and apply to the following day: Click here to view them
