From 8 to 10 May 2026, La Ciotat Tourist Office is hosting “L’Utopiste Cyclable”, a photography exhibition curated by Maxime Armagnan, dedicated to cycling in the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolitan area.
A travelling exhibition across the region
As part of a wider metropolitan initiative, this exhibition will visit several towns: Martigues, Aix-en-Provence, Aubagne, Cassis, Marseille (at Marseille-Saint-Charles station) and, with the town’s support, La Ciotat.
This touring format helps to forge a genuine bond between the local authorities around a shared challenge: rethinking mobility across the region.
A sensitive and immersive photographic project
The result of 18 months of documentary work, “L’Utopiste Cyclable” presents a series of photographs blending portraits and scenes of everyday life. Through his lens, Maxime Armagnan highlights the realities of cycling in the metropolitan area: the constraints of daily life, changing habits, but also individual and collective commitments.
Between contemporary challenges and a vision for the future
Beyond simply documenting, the exhibition carries a profoundly human and poetic dimension. It sketches an optimistic vision of soft mobility, where the bicycle becomes a symbol of transition, freedom and the reclaiming of urban space.
A collaborative and unifying project
This event is part of a strong partnership initiative, bringing together numerous organisations committed to sustainable mobility, including RAMDAM (a consortium of 15 associations), the company MULI Cycles, the Mai à Vélo network, and Gare & Connexions, which is responsible for the cultural programme at Saint-Charles station.
This network helps to give the exhibition a special resonance and to promote La Ciotat within a dynamic and committed ecosystem.
