The Count of Monte Cristo is a film by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, starring Pierre Niney as Edmond Dantès. The film tells the story of Edmond Dantès, a 22-year-old sailor who, on the day of his wedding to Mercédès Herrera, falls victim to a plot and is wrongly accused of conspiring on behalf of Napoleon. He is imprisoned in the Château d’If for fourteen years. During his imprisonment, he meets Abbé Faria, who reveals to him the existence of a treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo. After his escape, Edmond becomes immensely wealthy and returns under the guise of the Count of Monte Cristo to take revenge on those who betrayed him.
