Description
Set off for South America with the band Cántalo on a journey through the Caribbean and the continent, taking you from Cuba to the highlands of Peru, via Venezuela, Uruguay and Brazil.
Led by pianist Simon Bolzinger, who has been exploring traditional South American music for over thirty years, this unconventional ensemble is at once reminiscent of a jazz quintet, a Cuban salsa combo and a Creole music ensemble. They travel without preconceptions, alternating between rumba and samba, incorporating drums into Uruguayan candombe, complementing the Peruvian waltz with a lively montuno, and even taking the liberty of reinterpreting global hits. Traditional drums and vocals form the backbone of Cántalo’s music, but the language is also that of jazz: free and open to improvisation.
