Description
Tanabata Matsuri is a traditional Japanese cultural event in La Ciotat, organised by the Ciotanoshii association in collaboration with the Les Lumières de l'Eden association.
The Ciotanoshii association has long had a tradition of bringing the association’s year to a close with a small Tanabata celebration, to introduce its pupils to this beautiful tradition. In 2022, the opportunity arose to transform this small, intimate afternoon gathering into a genuine Japanese matsuri (street festival) open to all, and that is how Tanabata Matsuri came into being!
Tanabata Matsuri brings together, in a single event, the traditions of the Tanabata legend with cultural, culinary and recreational experiences. Thanks to the support of the team at the Cinéma Eden-Théâtre, a programme dedicated to Japanese cinema is also on offer on the same day.
This matsuri has several objectives:
To offer the town of La Ciotat a traditional Japanese festival that is unique in the region,
To showcase Japanese cinema in the world’s oldest cinema still in operation,
To raise awareness of the association and its values amongst as many people as possible,
To raise funds for the Ciotanoshii association, to be used in the following financial year.
