A bit of history
Following a suggestion by a Breton, Mr Jean Manquat, to draw a parallel between Halong Bay and the Gulf of Morbihan, the association ‘Les Plus Belles Baies du Monde’ was founded at the Berlin Travel Fair in March1997, thanks to its three founders: Michel Met, Hervé Laigo and Bruno Bodard.
Between 1998 and 2003, several bays joined forces to build what the association is today: an international organisation dedicated to tourism and sustainable development.
The 10 founding bays are:
- Gulf of Morbihan (France)
- Ha Long Bay (Vietnam)
- Somme Bay (France)
- Tadoussac Bay (Canada)
- Bodrum Bay (Turkey)
- Agadir Bay (Morocco)
- Bantry Bay (Ireland)
- Porto Girolata Bay (France)
- Mont Saint Michel Bay (France)
- San Francisco Bay (United States)
