With a scholarship from the German government, he completed his training at the Hochshule für Musik in Munich before embarking on an international musical career in the company of top soloists (Gérard Poulet, Frédéric Moreau, Florent Héau, Gérard Caussé, Michel Michalakakos, Jérôme Pernoo, Jean Ferrandis, Roland Pidoux, Jean Deroyer, Renaud Capuçon). As a composer and arranger, Patrick Zygmanowski works with the Comédie-Française theatre (Paris) and a variety of ensembles, for which he was awarded the Prix Delmas by the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Patrick Zygmanowski holds a Certificate of Aptitude as a piano teacher and teaches at the École normale de musique in Paris and at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional in Aix-en-Provence. He is also a permanent guest professor at the Osaka College of Music (Japan). He is artistic director of the Festival Musiques Festiv' in Entre-deux-Mers (Gironde).
His discography includes recordings devoted to French music for clarinet and piano (Duo Héau Zygmanowski, Lyrinx 1995 - 1999) as well as a complete set of sonatas by Brahms and Reger (with Florent Héau, Zigzag Territoire - 2003), which were unanimously acclaimed by the press. More recently, he has recorded several CDs: Schubert à quatre mains (WPCS 12323 - 2009), ‘Le piano danse’ again à quatre mains (Harmonia Mundi 2014) and a recording of works by Astor Piazzolla with the Trio Innova (IndéSens 2018). The critics hail him as ‘a sensitive and attentive performer, who carries his partner like one carries a ballet dancer, with elegance and authority’, ‘a sensitive pianist who shows intelligence and humour’, and ‘a sensitive artist with a delicate and expressive touch’.
