Le Café de l'Horloge

Restaurant, North-American cuisine, Organic cuisine, Gluten-free dishes, Vegan cuisine in La Ciotat
  • The Bar de l'horloge became the Café de l'Horloge in 2015 after a well thought-out makeover. A historic place where you can eat on the spot, on the terrace, at the counter, on the mezzanine, in the Emmaus reading corner or to take away.

  • The Story
Jules Le Noir, plagued by rheumatism, was sitting on a chair watching the game of boules. The owners of the bowling green where he was, the Pitiot brothers, who also owned the Bar de l'Horloge, suggested that he play sitting down. Jules then declared that boules was played standing up. They decided that the game would be played with the feet planted on the ground, in Provençal, with the feet tanned: petanque was born.
