“Âme provençale” brings together two painters from La Ciotat, Marie-Christine Gonzales and André Lataguerra. From 11 to 17 March 2026, their works will engage in a dialogue around the soul, roots, identity and emotion.
The La Ciotat Tourist Office is hosting the exhibition ‘Âme provençale’ (Provençal Soul), a powerful and sensitive artistic encounter between two artists from La Ciotat: Marie-Christine Gonzales and André Lataguerra.

Through their works, these two artists offer a pictorial journey imbued with humanity, roots and emotions. Their worlds, although distinct, engage in dialogue around a common theme: the soul, memory and identity.

Marie-Christine Gonzales immerses us in a world of gentleness and depth, where childhood, perspective and connection to life occupy a central place. Her paintings, both intimate and universal, exude great sensitivity. The faces she depicts seem imbued with history and silence, inviting the viewer to engage in almost meditative contemplation.

Ms Marie Christine GONZALES:

After studying various techniques (pastel, acrylic, watercolour) in several workshops, I turned to oil painting, which remains my favourite technique.
My last teacher entrusted me with his studio, and now, for the past ten years, I have been supporting my students, who place their trust in me. I am proud to see their progress.

For his part, André Lataguerra explores the richness of cultures and traditions through powerful portraits marked by symbols, colours and patterns. His work highlights identity, belonging and transmission, with an expressive force that challenges and touches deeply.

M André LATAGUERRA:
A native of Ciotat and a figurative painter for some thirty years, I have an old-fashioned style in the tradition of Provençal painters. Self-taught, my subjects are mainly the sea, lavender and still lifes. As a member of the Sirènes association, I have exhibited in various venues such as the Galerie du Port, the Tourist Office and various markets.

Brought together in this exhibition, the two artists offer a shared perspective on the human soul, between Provençal roots and openness to the world. ‘Provençal Soul’ is an invitation to feel, to observe differently and to be moved by painting as a universal language.

An exhibition not to be missed, where art becomes a bridge between cultures, generations and emotions.
