The La Ciotat Tourist Office is hosting the exhibition Le chant du littoral (Song of the Coast). Painters and sculptors explore the sea, light and shores. The guest of honour is Gilbert Ganteaume, an iconic figure in La Ciotat art.
The La Ciotat Tourist Office hosts the exhibition The Song of the Coastline, an artistic invitation to explore the many faces of the Mediterranean shore. Through paintings and sculptures, the artists offer a sensitive interpretation of the coastline, blending memory, light, emotion, and dialogue between land and sea.
Artist Dany LEROUX
I chose these three paintings because each expresses a facet of the coastline.
The solitary tree represents anchorage and the still presence watching over the shores.
The bouquet conveys the intimate and sensitive dimension of the coastline, what the sea leaves within us in colors and light.
The boat resting on the sand evokes travel, waiting, and the memory of crossings.
Together, they form a song: a dialogue between land, light, and sea, where each image contributes its own note.
Artist JEANY
Jeany draws inspiration from post-impressionism and fauvism.
She works in several artistic disciplines: painting (oil and acrylic), modeling, and sculpture (direct carving).
Her works range from portraits to landscapes and still lifes.
Her approach combines psychological sensitivity and creative passion, with each piece bearing a unique personal imprint.
Her Mediterranean environment currently plays a major role in nourishing her work.
Artist CHAL
I hope that by presenting some of my paintings, you will feel the pleasure of visually connecting with the warmth, melody, and softness I wished to place on the canvas. A gentle inspiration from the coastline, stimulating all the senses through the sole presence of nature. A moment of sharing and connection with authenticity.
Artist CABOU (Cathy Bourdeau)
Dreamy and sensitive by nature, she worked for many years in human resources. Today, she devotes her time fully to painting. In love with light, trees, and the sea, a traveler at heart, she cherishes unexpected encounters.
After training at the Atelier Stern in Paris, she returned to Provence, the land of her roots. Infinite shades of blue… her brushes, knives, and materials inscribe fragments of her story onto the canvas.
“I love the sea—its immensity, its beauty, its silence and its storms, its power, mysteries, and magnificent colors. Solitude, melancholy, eternity, humility, and strength are the feelings that echo within me in response to this infinity.
I seek an endless range of colors, dark and vibrant. Blue, my favorite color, unfolds endlessly, with touches of ochre, red, or yellow.
According to my moods, colors and emotions settle on the canvas. Often, my brush simply rests, and little by little, gesture and color choice take over.”
Guest of Honor: Gilbert Ganteaume
A Ciotat artist for over 60 years, Gilbert Ganteaume needs no introduction. Many of his works can be found throughout the city: the Memorial to the victims of asbestos at the port, the Monument for Peace in front of City Hall, the painting of the Camera of the Future inside City Hall, the frescoes of Notre-Dame Church, among others.
Deeply representative of La Ciotat through both his themes and his distinctive style, shaped by his work in the former shipyards where steel vessels were built, he overflows with creativity and explores subjects he is passionate about.
A founding member of the Sirènes association, he presents works created for the theme The Song of the Coastline. The city’s shoreline and port shaped his childhood, and at 93 years old, he offers smaller, more intimate works where his city and coast are still recognizable, sometimes almost abstract—allowing everyone to hear its “song.”
The Song of the Coastline is a collective exhibition where each artwork becomes a note, each artist a voice, celebrating the identity, poetry, and strength of La Ciotat’s coastline.
