Exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Gilbert Ganteaume

This major painter of the city, known for his monumental works (asbestos memorial, peace monument, resistance monuments, frescoes in the Church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption, etc.), whose creative passion was born while working in the shipyards, surrounded by gigantic steel boats, has evolved his style and shared it with the people of La Ciotat through his biennial exhibitions at the Chapelle des Pénitents Bleus.
At the age of 93, inspiration struck the artist with a new series: around thirty small, refined and very clear formats - contrasting with his previous works - enlivened by touches of colour and, of course, the material that sticks to his fingers.
His favourite themes are there to be discovered: the old port of La Ciotat and its cranes, the shores and glass palaces of Venice, nature too, with trees and hills... To be guessed at between lines of drawing and painting, around what still inspires the artist in his old age. A few sculptures will complete the exhibition, which focuses mainly on ports and boats.

The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday 4 October at 6pm.
A screening of a new short film on the work of painter Gilbert Ganteaume will take place on Saturday 11 October at 7pm.
A combined tour of the Barissardo Gallery and the frescoes of the Notre Dame de l'Assomption Church will be offered on Wednesday, 15 October at 4 p.m. (advance booking by telephone required).

The exhibition is organised by the Ganteaume, Artiste de la Matière association, which is responsible for the programme of events.
