Delve into the history of the Phocéen, La Ciotat's iconic steamboat. A symbol of the shipyard's launch, it marks the beginning of a major industrial and maritime adventure. The exhibition reveals its epic story, its innovations and life on board.
The exhibition dedicated to the Phocéen, La Ciotat's iconic steamboat, invites the public to discover a seminal chapter in the town's industrial history. Built in the 19th century, this ship symbolises the launch of the La Ciotat shipyard and marks the beginning of a major maritime and technological adventure for the town.

Through previously unseen archives, old photographs, technical plans, models and testimonials, the exhibition traces the stages of its construction, the innovations linked to steam propulsion and the expertise of the shipyard's first workers. The exhibition also highlights life on board, sailing conditions and the role of the Phocéen in regional economic development.

A true symbol of audacity and modernity, the Phocéen embodies the industrial boom that made La Ciotat a major shipbuilding centre in the Mediterranean.
