Chapelle des Pénitents Bleus
Cultural, Exhibition gallery
in La Ciotat
-
This chapel, also called the Chapel of Notre Dame de Grâce, is a model of Counter-Reformation architecture.
-
The chapel was once owned by the Hospice, a place of worship for the local Italian community, and is now an exhibition and cultural centre.
The octagonal bell tower, the sculptures on the façade, the gargoyles and the characteristic windows are particularly worth seeing.
The octagonal bell tower was built between 1633 and 1650 and the interior decoration of some windows bears the dates 1693 and 1694.
The chapel was classified as a historical monument on 31 March 1992.
