Calanques Propres is a large-scale clean-up operation involving the sorting of waste collected between the Côte Bleue and La Ciotat, as well as further inland (Huveaune and Aygalades), across more than 39 areas.

Coordinated by the MerTerre association, the event brings together citizens, organisations, local authorities and businesses to tackle littering and plastic pollution, and to protect the calanques and marine biodiversity. Launched in the 1990s, the initiative now draws on the scientific expertise of the Zero Litter/ReMed platform, the Mediterranean platform for Zero Litter. The waste collected is sorted, categorised and analysed to identify its sources and strengthen waste prevention measures at source. Calanques Propres thus combines community engagement, environmental data collection and conservation to take sustainable action against pollution. In La Ciotat, the 23rd edition of the Calanques Propres operation will take place in the Calanque du Mugel and the Calanque de Figuerolles. Programme: Calanque du Mugel L’Atelier Bleu – CPIE Côte Provençale has been involved for several years in this large-scale clean-up operation of our local area, initiated by the MerTerre association. This event will take place around the Grand and Petit Mugel calanques and is open to anyone who wishes to take part (adults and children alike). Participants are welcome from 9.30 am to 10.30 am to collect their equipment (gloves, bags, tongs) in front of the Bastide at Parc du Mugel, before being directed to the various collection areas (Grand Mugel, Petit Mugel, the park, the sea wall). The clean-up will take place on land. Following the clean-up from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm, participants will be able to sort and categorise the waste until around 12.30 pm, so that the data collected can subsequently be used to implement concrete measures to reduce litter. Calanque de Figuerolles 9.30 am: Welcome, registration and verification of members by the organisations Collect-If Environnement and Les Sentinelles de la Mer Méditerranée. Safety briefing, distribution of litter-picking equipment and allocation of areas. 10 am: Collection of bulky waste. Handing out of protocols. 12 noon: Aperitif at Chez Tania restaurant. Picnic in the cove. 2.30 pm: Workshop on quantifying and classifying large litter. 3 pm: Jaïchi workshop – meditation. Group activity with parents. ‘Effets Mer!’ creative workshop with the children. 4.30 pm: Snacks and presentation of certificates.
