To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the triptych in the church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption, we are delighted to invite you to an exceptional exhibition paying tribute to its creator, the painter Gilbert Ganteaume. Since its creation in 1975, this monumental work of art has continued to amaze the faithful and art lovers alike with its evocative power and unique expressiveness.

Celebrating 50 years of light, spirituality and artistic transmission, this retrospective explores the genesis of the triptych and the pictorial universe of Gilbert Ganteaume. Through a selection of works, archive documents and personal accounts, the exhibition offers an insight into the artist's creative process, highlighting his exceptional talent and his legacy.

The association Ganteaume, Artiste de la Matière has recently been set up to carry out in-depth research into his work and preserve its memory. A booklet will detail each element of the triptych, adding to our understanding and appreciation of this masterpiece.

During the inaugural lecture, Ms Ganteaume will shed valuable light on her father's inspiration and the context in which the triptych was created. In the 1960s, the church of Notre-Dame was faced with major problems of seepage. It was in this context that, buoyed by the impetus of the Second Vatican Council to introduce modernism into the Church, the priest of the time decided to entrust the creation of a contemporary work to an artist of his time. His choice fell on Gilbert Ganteaume, who spent fourteen months creating these monumental frescoes.

The exhibition will feature three explanatory panels illustrated with photographs and text, as well as the exceptional presentation of three preparatory sketches for the triptych. Other works by the artist will also complete this immersion in his pictorial universe, testifying to his unique approach to matter and light.

This event is also part of a wider cultural initiative, in conjunction with La Nuit des Églises, to be held on 27 June 2025. To mark the occasion, Notre Dame de l'Assomption church will be hosting an exceptional evening of shows and concerts, offering a lively celebration of art and the sacred.

Come and rediscover this precious artistic heritage and celebrate the encounter between art and spirituality.
