Venice Carnival is a traditional Italian festival dating back to the Middle Ages. It begins ten days before Ash Wednesday and continues until Shrove Tuesday. Known for its costumes and masks, it attracts huge crowds.

    Kadija Zerguit, artistic embroiderer
After gaining a CAP in embroidery in 1985, Kadija Zerguit worked for Haute Couture embroidery houses for 15 years, and taught and ran embroidery workshops for two associations for 6 years. She has been exhibiting her work since 2018.

Her art is practised using a needle and a Luneville hook (a wooden handle with a metal end to which a hook is attached). It allows her to work with a wide variety of materials, including thread, beads, sequins, paint and any material she can recycle (cardboard, wood, fabric, plants, plastic, metal parts).

The work at Luneville is done right side up for the thread and upside down for the beaded materials. This means that she turns her embroidery loom upside down and attaches the beads and sequins one by one, simply by feeling the material with her hands.
